Mission Statement

TAWAEN, at its core, is a space that creates spaces for mutual learning, positioning Siwa as author, teacher, and subject we come to see and observe and learn from and see the way they see. We invite audiences into genuine connection with local traditions and living practices, using cinema, music, food, agriculture, and creative practice as points of entry. In doing so, we deepen public appreciation for Siwa as a landscape of resilience while equipping Siwi youth and women with the new tools to shape their own future. And the exchange does not end in Siwa: it is carried forward through new relationships, ideas, practices, and collaborations that continue to carry and grow Siwa’s impact into the wider world.

Our work is grounded in a simple principle: cultural exchange should contribute to the place where it happens. With every edition of TAWAEN, we aim to support the documentation and continuation of local knowledge and culture, create economic and participatory opportunities for the local communities, and build relationships that extend beyond festival days. 

Core Operational Pillars

1) Co-curating and developing practices that respects the capacity of the land alongside community leaders in Siwa, as well as working with youth and women, addressing either the lack of access to culture and arts education in this marginalized geographical sector or economic disempowerment, through activities like social cuisine, choir and video/photography workshops, so programming decisions and cultural authorship stay local.

2) Horizontal Participation: Replacing passive cultural consumption with horizontal participation. By creating open platforms—ranging from communal dining tables to hands-on workshops—we ensure attendees actively contribute to shaping the cultural ecosystem.

3) Building bilingual, accessible platforms — including collective documentation of Siwi music and cuisine — that extend the festival's reach to researchers, culture-sector decision-makers, and food and culture enthusiasts nationally and internationally.
 
Vision Statement

We envision a future where Siwa stands as a living reference for continuous learning; with the land, nature, and community, through rooted artistic, cultural, and spiritual practices.

And for it to be recognized globally as a cultural hub and a living center for interdisciplinary practice and cross-cultural exchanges, sustained by enduring relationships between Siwa, its community, and the local and international artists, researchers, and collaborators who return for TAWAEN year after year as participants in its ongoing story..TAWAEN, hence, grows a wider movement of people and platforms that learn to see their relationships with their lands, the animals, the plants, and the humans around them..

تأسيس ارتباط حقيقي وعميق مع التقاليد والممارسات الثقافية والبيئية الحية المتأصلة في الأرض والحياة، متخذين من السينما، والموسيقى، والطعام، والزراعة، والممارسات الإبداعية أبواباً للدخول، بشكل يحترم الأرض وقدرتها ويحميها ولا يستنزفها. ولا يتوقف هذا الأثر عند حدود الواحة، بل يمتد ويُحمل إلى العالم الأوسع عبر ما يثمره من علاقات، وأفكار، وممارسات، وشراكات جديدة تنمي أثر سيوة وتوسع نطاقه.


ينبع عملنا من مبدأ بسيط: التبادل الثقافي لا يحدث منعزلًا عن الأرض والبيئة. صُمم مهرجان "طاوين" ليوطد مكانة الثقافة الحية في سيوة، وخلق مشاركة اقتصادية حقيقية وفاعلة لأهلها، ويبني روابط إنسانية تمتد وتتوسع جغرافيًا لما بعد أيام الملتقى

الركائز التشغيلية الأساسية:

التقييم والبرمجة المشتركة للفنون، والسينما المستقلة التي تعمل بالطاقة الشمسية، وتقديم ورش وعروض بالتعاون المباشر مع أهالي سيوة والخبراء الإقليميين لضمان بقاء قرارات البرمجة نابعة من المجتمع المحلي. وتأسيس نموذج اقتصادي مستدام مناهض للاستنزاف، حيث تساهم عوائد الشراكات المؤسسية وفعاليات الملتقى في تمكين الشباب المحلي، ودعم النساء اقتصادياً، وتعزيز الصمود الزراعي والبيئي.
استبدال التلقي السلبي لجمهور المبادرات والفعاليات الثقافية بالمشاركة الأفقية، وخلق منصات مفتوحة - من موائد الطعام الجماعية إلى الورش التطبيقية - حيث يساهم الحضور بفاعلية في تشكيل البيئة الثقافية.

منصات ثنائية اللغة ومتاحة للجميع: بناء منصات ثنائية اللغة وسهلة الوصول — تشمل التوثيق الجماعي للموسيقى والمطبخ السيوي — لتوسيع نطاق الملتقى وأثره، ليصل إلى الباحثين، وصناع القرار في القطاع الثقافي على المستويين المحلي والدولي..

الرؤية

مستقبل تشكل فيه واحة سيوة مرجعاً للتعلم المستمر مع المجتمعات المحلية، ومع الأرض والطبيعة، من خلال ممارسات متعددة: فنية وثقافية وروحية.

فتُعرف عالمياً كمركز ثقافي ومساحة حية للممارسات متعددة التخصصات والتبادل الثقافي. وهي رؤية تستدام عبر علاقات ممتدة وموثوقة بين مجتمع سيوة والفنانين والباحثين والشركاء محلياً ودولياً الذين يعودون إلى "طاوين" عاماً بعد عام ليكونوا جزءاً فاعلاً من حكاياته المستمرة ومن هنا، يغرس "طاوين" بذور حركة أوسع لأفراد يتعلمون مع إعادة النظر في علاقتهم بالأرض، والنباتات، والحيوانات، والبشر من حولهم.
